About Karen
I love food. From sowing seeds to the finest dining experiences in the world, food has fascinated me, nourished me - physically and spiritually - and introduced me to an amazing range of people and cultures. My love for food began while growing up in the rural and remote part of Vermont called the Northeast Kingdom. Many of our activities, both work and leisure, were rooted in harvesting, growing, cooking, preparing and preserving foods. Some of my first jobs were in food service, too. Working at a nearby grand resort introduced me to the creative, passionate and labor-intensive business of cooking and serving, launching my lifetime fascination with restaurants and ultimately the creation of my business.
A lifelong love for writing and a desire to earn a college degree led me to New Jersey, where as a returning student I graduated from Rutgers University with honors in English while raising a family. I was the first member of my family to earn a four-year degree. I went on to work as a freelance journalist and later became a full-time staff writer at one of New Jersey’s largest media companies. I then secured a job as a development director for a grassroots charity where I utilized my talent for making meaningful connections within my community. Next, I became a consultant for one of New Jersey’s top management consulting firms serving gift-supported, not-for-profit organizations. At that time, I combined my love for food, writing, and the fast-paced, demanding, ever-evolving world of restaurants into Culinary Communications LLC., a public relations agency that focuses on food businesses, in particular restaurants. I found my calling and for the past 20 years I have loved every second of serving my clients and garnering them brand recognition. I reside in Vermont, Florida and New Jersey with my husband Bob Cullinane. |
